Lucy has always been interested in athletics from a young age and could not wait to start training and competing. She joined Wakefield District Harriers and AC when she was 8 years old and started competing in her first season in 2002. She took up sprinting more or less as soon as she started her training, reaching semi-finals and finals in competitions. When she moved up in to the Under 13 category where she was trained by Bryan Murray, she broke 5 different club records numerous times throughout her two years in that age group - 75m, 80m, 100m, 150m and 200m, with the latter being her first record, as well as the West Yorkshire Long Jump record.

Lucy still had a good number of wins, times and titles to her name within sprinting and has represented West Yorkshire at the English Schools’ Championships on 4 occasions, taking part in 3 different events. In 2006, Lucy ran the 200m in the Junior category, coming 5th in her heat. In 2007, Lucy came 13th in the Long Jump. She also competed for Yorkshire in the Inter-Counties match, coming 3rd in the 100m and was part of the winning Yorkshire Medley relay where she ran the 200m leg. However, due to a number of intense injuries during her U17/Intermediate age group, Lucy decided to swap events and become a Shot Putter. Lucy has now trained properly for the Shot for 2 years (Sept. 2012) with her Coach, Paul Evenden, for who she is very grateful for. Paul coached Lucy to gain her 3rd selection for West Yorkshire in 2012, coming 11th in the Senior Girls Shot Put, throwing 9.98m. A year later, Lucy again competed in the English Schools’ Championships, winning the Senior Girls’ Shot Put with a throw of 12.51m. Since Lucy has been with Paul, she has gained many National & Regional medals, and also a selection for the North of England in the Malta International Match in 2012.

Outside of athletics, Lucy is currently studying Sport & Exercise Science at the University of Hull and is about to begin her 2nd year of the course. Lucy would like to go further in her education and gain a PhD in Clinical Physiology. Lucy works part time at Nostell Priory and Parklands (National Trust Property) as a Catering Assistant and has been there for 3 years.
