Nigel is the current Welsh record holder in the javelin event (81.70m) and has coached a host of events and athletes. As well as being a L4 throws coach and former national event coach he is a qualified official and also a qualifed RFU and FA referee with a long background in rugby where he has coached up to regional level in schoolboy rugby and was an England U15 football triallist and had England U16 and U18 rugby trials. As well as his rugby exploits he has played many a sport to a high standard, including a stint as an schoolboy amateur boxer, a cross regional cross country runner and found athletics reasonably late in his school career.
Other interesting facts are he gained his AFF (accelerated free fall) parachute licence jumping at the same place here his father used to be an RAF PJI (jump instructor) (Weston-on the Green, Oxford) coincidentally and survived a serious crash landing on his deployed reserve... which put an end to his thoughts of ressurecting his javelin career in the early noughties and is a qualified self defence instructor and recently began re certificating in various martial art forms as a hobby!
Most notable athletes he has coached are Scott Rider, shot putter and Olympic bobsledder, Matti Mortimore and Freya Jones both UK age best record holder and currently Brett Morse UK U23 discus record holder and holder of several Welsh records.
New hobby of online gaming - saves money and you get to kill people on line - legally - unfortunately his cat like reactions and sixth sense are not what they once were and is the worst player he knows of the 20-30 or so athletes, firemen and soldiers in his community. Summed up in a word - SAD!
