The ex-Florida State University student made a breakthrough at the 2008 Bislett Games, where the Bolton AC athlete reduced his lifetime best from 3:38.92 to 3:35.33, before winning the Olympic Trials, which guaranteed selection for the Olympic Games in Beijing but Lancashire did not progress through the heats.
Lancashire, who is also set to study medicine at Manchester University is renowned for his versatility, having clocked 1:45.76 for 800m, and 13:56.65 on his 5000m debut in 2007.
In 2009, after an early seaon pb of 3:34.29 at the Golden League in Berlin, he ran disappointingly at the same venue in the World Championships, but bounced back soon afterwards running 3:34.74 in Zurich.
2010 saw him improve again with a 3:33.96 clocking although he ran disappointingly at both the European Championships and Commonwealth Games in slow-run affairs and will be looking to learn from those experiences in 2011.
He is a talented all round sportsman having previously taken part in many sports including football, swimming, cricket, ice hockey and snowboarding.
He attributes his early success to his first coach Jack Caldwell who brought him into the sport. Tom is a massive Manchester United fan. |
