My performance is missing
There are several reasons why performances may be missing from your profile and/or
the rankings. The most common reasons are noted below as well as what to do in these
instances.
- The performance is not within our standards:
We normally only include performances which are inside certain standards. This is
because we simply do not have the resources to add every performance from every
fixture. Please go here to view the standards needed for inclusion.
These are entirely unrelated to the 10/100 Targets.
Sometimes, however, we will include "full" results from a meeting. Usually this
is when the format the official results come in allows us to easily manipulate the
data into the format needed for us to import it. If you are a meeting organiser
and would like to provide your results in such a format, allowing all performances
to be added to the site, then please contact us at admin@thepowerof10.info.
On the Results page you can see if we have added full results or
only those inside our standards by looking in the "Results" column on the right.
If it says "Complete" beside a fixture then we have only added those within our
standards. If it says "Full" then we have added all performances. It is hoped that,
in time, as results formats become more uniform, we will be able to include more
full results.
In fixtures where there are no standards (for example, Cross Country and Fell races
or non-standard road or multi-terrain races) the number of performances added is
at the discretion of our results team. In smaller fixtures it might just be the
top 3 men and women, or top 3 in each age group. In larger, more important races,
we will add considerably more.
If you have a performance which is not within our standards but which you would like
added to the site, you can still do this. Add it via the
FAQ on the Submit Performance Form
- We are not including performances from that particular fixture:
Although we process the vast majority of fixtures, some are omitted since we can
only include verifiable performances in bona-fide competitions where the level of
officiating is of a consistent standard.
For example, in agreement with all relevant organisations, such as the Home County
Schools Athletics Associations, we will only be including schools meetings at county
and higher levels. In addition, only the Regional "A" Final and National
Final of the ESAA Cup and National Final of the ISA/GDST competitions will be included.
Sports Hall performances also are not included on the site.
Furthermore we may exclude performances if:
- The level of officiating is not of an acceptable standard.
- Races were not started by a gun.
- Times in races that were manually timed are not recorded to 0.1 seconds.
If your performance is subject to any of these conditions, unfortunately it is not
possible to add it to the site.
- We have not received/found the official results yet:
If the
fixture name in the "Meeting" column on the results page is red
(i.e. a link to the official results, see right for example) then we have received
the results, if it is black then we have not.
If you have a copy of any results we are missing, please send them to admin@thepowerof10.info
or use the respective "submit" link on the results page. We will then process them
and add the performances ASAP.
- We have not processed the results yet:
Once we have received the official results from a fixture, we have to collate them
into a format which can then be imported into our database. For Track & Field competitions,
10K, Half Marathon and Marathon road races we aim to have imported the performances
within 24 hours of receiving the results. For other races, such as Cross Country,
Multi-Terrain and the remaining road running distances, the performances are generally
added each Wednesday night.
If we appear to have had access to the official results from a fixture for over
a week and yet the peformances have still not been added, then please email us at
admin@thepowerof10.info.
Note though that performances from Cross Country, Multi-Terrain etc races run on
a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday will most likely be added in the following week's
import.
- Your performance has been imported onto the site but hasn't
been assigned to your profile:
When performances are added to the site our system automatically assigns them to
an athlete's profile. However, it relies on the information in the official results
closely matching the information we have in our database.
Due to the large number of people in our database we rely on the Name, Age Group
and Club of an athlete in order to know whose performance it is. If your Name, Age
Group and/or Club in the official results does not match the details we have for
you in our database then we cannot be certain that the performance is "yours".
Often it is just basic spelling mistakes which cause problems and our team carefully
goes through the performances which remain unassigned, allocating them to the likely
profile. However, because of the large number of performances we import each week
it may take a few days for us to allocate them all.
One thing you can do to speed up the process is to notify us which athlete a performance
belongs to using the iD links which appear on the far
right, beside unassigned performances, on the internal results pages.
If your performance still remains unassigned to your profile after a few days, or
if a performance that is not yours has been allocated to your profile, please
email us at admin@thepowerof10.info and we will make the necessary
changes.
- Past performances are missing:
We only started collecting data in 2006 and initially our standards for inclusion
were harder than they are now. As such, many past performances will not be on the
site. We have added thousands of past performances so that our "All Time" ranking
lists are correct but these are generally only the very best British performances.
People are currently able to add their past performances themselves via the
Submit Performance Form. But please note: we require some way to
verify all performances added to the site. There are clearly huge problems in obtaining
verification for performances where results cannot be found on the internet. In
these cases, the best course of action is for you to email us scans of the official
results or the results as they appeared in old issues of AW if you have them. We
recognise that this could be difficult for many people but we require verification
to preserve the accuracy of the data on the site.
- Your performance appears on your profile but not on the rankings:
This might happen for a few reasons:
- The ranking pages are on a cache to speed up performance. This means that,
unlike profile pages, they do not update immediately. As the cache for the ranking
pages refreshes evey few hours it is possible that, if we have added your performance
to the site very recently, the rankings will not have refreshed yet to include it.
If you think this could be the case, please check again in a few hours time. If
it still doesn't appear, do email us.
- Your performance might be wind assisted. If the wind-gauge reading for a
performance was greater than +2.0 m/s then it is not eligible for the default rankings.
Nor is it able to count as a record. This is the approach use by statisicians worldwide,
including the World Records from the IAAF. On the Power of 10, the performance will
have "w" beside it if it is wind-assisted.
We do, however, give users the option to include wind-assisted performances when
viewing ranking lists. For information on this please see the details on the
Extended Rankings Section below.
- Your performance might not be inside the cut-off. Because we usually only
add performances within certain standards, our ranking pages use
these standards as an upper limit to ensure accuracy.
If your performance isn't inside this limit, it won't show on the default lists.
We do give users the option to include all performances on the ranking lists, regardless
of standard. For information on this please see the details on the Extended
Rankings Section below. N.B. though that as soon as you take the
upper limit away, we can no longer guarantee the accuracy of the rankings as there
will be many performances outside our standards that are missing.
- Other factors prevent it from being included. For example, in road races, if the
course is found to be short then the performance will be removed from the rankings;
or if we are informed that hurdles were set at the wrong height. If something like
this is the case, you will usually be able to tell by looking at the event code.
If it contains "NS" or "SHORT" or similar then it is inelligble for the rankings.
Please see the Event Code Explained section for more information
on these. We will normally also put a note in the internal result page detailing
why the performances are inelligble.
Also, please note that races done on multi-terrain courses are not
elligible for the rankings due to the fact that their distance (and elevation) cannot
be measured accurately enough.
- It is an overseas performance:
We will include performances by British athletes regardless of where they are achieved.
However, it is a lot harder for us to find or be notified of performances from overseas
fixtures which is why such performances, even if they are within our standards,
might be missing. If you have overseas performances missing, please email us and
include the fixture name, venue, date and a link to official results and we will
add the performance ASAP.
- It is a performance achieved by an U11:
