UKA Inclusion Criteria

The general remit of the Power of 10 website is to record all performances achieved by UK athletes, in line with agreed entry standards, in order to maintain a clear and accurate record of how performances are improving in all areas and across all age groups.

Generally such performances are entered by the site hosts in association with Athletics Weekly and so for the vast majority of events there is no need for you to do anything.

However, the site can only include verifiable performances in bona-fide competitions where the level of officiating is of a consistent standard.

In general all club and higher level track & field competitions will be included. However, we, in agreement with all relevant organisations, such as the Home County Schools Athletics Associations, will only be including schools meetings at county and higher levels. Specifically:

  • English Schools Cup - Regional "A" Final and National Final included. (First round and non "A" regional finals excluded.)
  • ISA, GDST - National Finals only.

Track & field performances will also be excluded that otherwise meet the criteria when:

  • The level of officiating is not of an acceptable standard.
  • Races were not started by a gun.
  • Times in races that were manually timed and not recorded to 0.1 seconds.

For road and multi terrain, we include performances from races that have been awarded a UKA license either by runbritain or one of the Celtic national governing bodies.

In road races, the times recorded for rankings purposes will be the "gun" times. This is to ensure consistency over all races both now and in the past to reflect that rankings represent a record of performances done under direct competition whereby the results of a race are ordered by the order that athletes cross a common finish line after a common start. This is also the common method used by statisticians worldwide.

We do recognise that in some large races some athletes may not have an clear run as soon as the gun goes and so, when available, we will also endeavour to record "chip" times and to present these alongside the "gun" times to assist the reader in comparing performances.

Further, the road rankings shown on the site are taken from performances on actual road (not multi terrain) courses, where the course has a measurement certificate and where the course, as measured, was actually run by the competitors.

Cross country, fell and mountain races and also non-track relay races are beyond the direct remit of Power of 10 but we will endeavour to include performances from the major competitions in these areas in line with the general entry standards and the above meeting inclusion criteria.
