| Ann Griffiths is a St Helens born athlete. She competed for Sutton Harrriers from a young age over cross country and middle distance. She won the Merseyside County Cross Country Championships in every age group up to being a Senior. At the age of 16 Ann won the English Schools Championships over 400m with a championship best time of 55 secs. Ann joined Sale Harriers Manchester at the age of 19 and after a while joined Norman Poole's training group to move back to middle-distance running.
In 1989 Ann won her first National title over 800m at the UK Championships and the journey continued. Ann won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland in1990 and she also went on to be a finalist at both the European and World Championships. In 1992 Ann gained selection for the Barcelona Olympics over 1500m. A few weeks before Barcelona Ann won the Golden Gala in Rome and was predicted to be a finalist at the Olympics, but unfortunately this was not to be. In the 1st round in in Barcelona Ann was tripped from behind and was incorrectly disqualified and could not progress to the semi-final.
Ann was also ran cross country placing 11th in the National Cross Country on 2 occasions. She also ran 33mins for 10km at Speke and Southport.
