| A senior international from the age of sixteen Sheila went on to compete in three Olympics and four Commonwealth games and indeed made every major championship from 1962 to 1974. In 1968 she got married, succeeded Mary Rand as Britain’s number one and won Olympic silver. The day following her Mexico success husband John won 400 Hurdles bronze and their careers where remarkably similar. Sheila had won Commonwealth silver at the age of twenty however she was into her seventh year as an International before she really attained world class. Awarded the MBE in 1975. |
