|All the best my legions of non readers! The year ended on a good note with me knocking 14 seconds off my 10k PB Ribble Valley 10k. I was confident of getting under 36 mins but after 3k I knew it wasn’t gonna happen. The conditions were perfect and there was an excellent field. The course itself was quite tough, plenty of undulations with a sharp uphill at right at the finish. Just goes to show the benefit of not racing alone, it really does drag you around. I was happy with the PB though and even though I got nowhere near sub 36, I ran consistently with not much to choose through the splits.
I managed to get in a few runs over the holidays but a trip to Las Vegas for 10 days to celebrate New Year and my 41st birthday put a spanner in the works. All them big breakfasts and lashing of alchohol were hardly the best preparation but you can’t go to place like Vegas and like a monk. Highlights of the trip were going the Grand Canyon by helicopter, the Cirque De Soliel’s LOVE and AC/DC tribute band Bonfire’s performance on Fremont Street New Years Eve, thought my head was going to explode when they ripped into Let There Be Rock!
Got back a day late after being delayed (24 hours in Atlanta, not great) and hard a few decent runs and ran the NW XC at Runcorn on Sunday. The course was mixture of had rutted grass and boggy mud, with the added bonus of the ski slope, it’s a toughish course. PLS actually had a decent team out, we managed 3rd place and had 5 of the 6 in the top 23. I was 6th counter in 33rd, disappointing but no shock there.
Hoping to get back down the track tonight, weather permitting. Going to start thinking about my marathon training after this weekends Four Villages Half Marathon. Looking for a PB at Helsby, which I think is a quick course. If I can hang on until that 11 mile mark, I reckon I'll knock a good chunk off my PB.
